About the lab

The liberal arts have rich stories to tell and GCIEL is exploring new ways to tell them. We are a dynamic team of creative individuals investigating how immersive 3D, VR, AR, and MR experiences can be used to enhance and augment the liberal arts. Partnering closely with faculty members, we design and develop experiences that enact spatial narratives; invoke a sense of presence; create empathy across lines of race, class and gender; address social inequalities; foster intercultural dialogue and understanding; and visualize cultural heritage sites and literary works. We are systems thinkers who thrive at the intersection of academic disciplines and rise to the challenge of complex projects. At home with both historical texts and modern computer software programs, we engineer experiences that root people more fully in the world, connect them with their fellow human beings, and teach them about their shared histories and cultures.
